Seal in!

Not everyone has got one of these as a pet. Our little village harbour has its very own pet seal. Our mascot called Joesphine and with the occasional sardine or pilchard we encourage her to stay here. So that she can bite the trippers.

Memsahib and I wandered down to the quay this morning to greet her. She's put her new coat on and a liitle more weight for winter and seems contented enough. She is getting on a bit now though. No one knows how old she is for sure but she arrived here almost a decade ago. A whole bunch of naturalists arrived shortly afterwards, like they inevitably do, to transport her back to her own community around the coast. 'For her own good.' Within a week she had made the 100 kilometre trip back again, including negotiating St Malo lock. So the 'experts' figured they had no choice but to let her stay.

She is such a poseur and a celebrity she draws visitors from right across the country. I fear the day though when she finally pops her flippers. There will have to be a state funeral.

I’ve finished naturalist expeditions now.

For the day anyway.
